Claremont High School Academy

A night to remember

Claremont High School’s musicians hit all the high notes in an evening of harmony

Music has long been a part of Claremont’s artistic offering and now there are three concerts throughout the year showcasing the students’ musical talent. ‘We give pupils multiple opportunities to build up their repertoire,’ explains Mr Rudd, ‘which means we give lots of soloists a chance.’

On 17th October 2024, the first of this year’s three showcases took place - the Autumn Concert. Various ensembles participated, including ‘Big Band’, guitar, strings and woodwind. Soloists were well represented too: Safia Ali, Jaanvi Bharj, Kateryna Holovatska, Savannah Kassouf, Julie Melo, Bansi Patel, Teyago Robertson-Yebovi and Shreeya Rughani. New groups included students from the Year 7 and 8 Musicianship Programmes, for those pupils who join Claremont partly due to their musical aptitude, plus a choir. All this and a student-led group too, featuring Dannio Cao, Kavinu Gallage, Marc-Anthony Ghinea and Allyzandro Rodrigues. It was certainly a night to remember.

Mr Rudd was pleased with the results. ‘Many years ago we only did one concert per year, but now that we have three, we’ve noticed how well trained and professional the students are when producing these events.’ He also paid tribute to Brent Music Services, who support and assist the concerts: ‘We are fortunate to have very accomplished ensemble leaders from BMS.’

Students from every year group were represented and they were definitely glad to have taken part, even if they did feel a little nervous to begin with… ‘This has really pushed me out of my comfort zone,’ admits Shreeya Rughani, Head Prefect, ‘but I love pursuing my passion for singing.’ Allyzandro Rodrigues was also proud of what everyone achieved: ‘This is a great showcase of talented students.’

It is indeed and we’re already looking forward to the Spring Concert.
